Hutchison To Be First With 3G In Australia
Posted: 28-May-2002 [Source: newsbytes]

[Hutchison to launch 3G Q1 next year offering video, GPS, video streaming and MPEG3 functionality.]

by David Firth, Sydney, Australia -- "Hutchison Telecommunications Australia says its first third-generation (3G) mobile devices - to be launched along with its 3G services early next year - will come with both still and video cameras, a global positioning system, a PDA, video streaming and MPEG3 features.

The company has abandoned earlier talk of a late-2002 launch, but says it's well on the way to a rollout in Q1 next year - and it will be the first in Australia.

"Our competitors consider that we are launching 3G too early. We disagree. Their reluctance to embrace 3G opens the window of opportunity for Hutchison Australia to establish a market-leading 3G offering," said CEO Kevin Russell.
