[Qualcomm provided BREW demonstration at the Expo Comm Wireless Japan 2002 using a current 1x handset running applications from eight different companies.]

Tokyo -- "Qualcomm Japan Inc., the Japanese affiliate of U.S.-based Qualcomm Inc., gave a working demonstration of its Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) application development platform for cdmaOne/cdma2000 1x mobile phones at the "Expo Comm Wireless Japan 2002" event.

The demonstration handset ran BREW applications developed by eight different firms, including Fujitsu Ltd., NEC Corp., and K Laboratory Co., Ltd. For example, there are BREW applications for news and weather forecasts, and video content created with Macromedia Inc.'s Flash. The demo uses BREW versions 1.1 and 1.2, not the latest version, 2.0."
