[Wireless campuses growing trend in the Hoosier State.]

by Barb Berggoetz -- "Just after arriving on campus for a summer fast-track calculus course, 50 students at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology had in their tight grips new, state-of-the-art laptop computers and software worth $3,200.

The private engineering school has required students to buy laptops for nine years. But when the rest of Rose-Hulman's 1,800 students start classes Sept. 5, they'll find the Terre Haute campus now has a totally wireless network. Students will be able to use laptops to hop onto the information superhighway anywhere on campus without plugging in.

More than 300,000 Indiana public and private college students begin fall classes as early as Monday. As the push for the most convenient, up-to-date technology grows and universities vie to stay competitive, some students at other Hoosier colleges also will come back to wireless or partially wireless campuses."
