Posted: 06-Sep-2002 [Source: Reuters]

[AT&T's promotional plan includes free roaming on its nationwide GSM/GPRS network as well as unlimited calls and data transmissions.]

Redmond, WA -- "AT&T Wireless Services Inc. AWE.N , the nation's third-largest wireless telephone company, on Thursday launched a special price promotion for voice plans on its new network based on the globally dominant technology standard.

The nationwide plans start as low as $39.99 a month for 1,000 "anytime" minutes and go up to $99.99 for unlimited calling with a one- or two-year contract. They are available in cities where the company has launched GSM/GPRS service, including Boston, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles, its newest markets.

GSM, short for Global System for Mobile Communications, is the dominant wireless technology standard used in the world. GPRS, or General Packet Radio Service, is an advanced version that offers high-speed Internet access."
