Siemens, Motorola Silent on Telecoms Swap Report

[A possible swap may be on the horizon involving Siemens' wireless telephone unit and Motorola's mobile networks business. A trade would allow Motorola to boost its share of the handset market to 25 percent compared to Nokia's 37 percent share.]

Frankfurt/Chicago -- "Siemens AG and Motorola dclined to comment on Monday on a report they would swap the Siemens' wireless telephone unit for Motorola's mobile networks business, a deal analysts say would benefit both.

Crain's Chicago Business's Web site reported over the weekend that the German electronics and engineering firm and the world's No. 2 maker of wireless phones were close to a swap of businesses that each generate just over $4 billion, citing sources familiar with the situation."
