Halifax, Nova Scotia -- Aliant Mobility announced today the launch of it's CDMA2000 1X (one times radio transmission technology) wireless network in Halifax. The 1X network delivers the fastest wireless data speeds in Atlantic Canada, and now customers in the Greater Halifax Metro Area can experience the benefits of this next generation wireless technology, including improved graphics, faster Internet connection speed and quick and convenient access to email and information.

The 1X network supports advanced wireless voice and data communications and delivers Atlantic Canada's broadest suite of industry-leading business and consumer applications. Also available are new 1X-ready devices, including phones that can access higher speed data, and wireless modems that have voice capabilities.

"As the market leader in the wireless data field, Aliant Mobility is pleased to bring customers this next generation in wireless network technology," said Chuck Hartlen, Vice President, Aliant Mobility. "The arrival of 1X in Halifax reinforces our commitment to delivering the wireless solutions our customers want while making them easier to use, more fun, more interactive and more personalized than ever before."

In addition to Halifax, Aliant Mobility will introduce 1X service in Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, Charlottetown, and St. John's during the first quarter of 2003 followed by other Atlantic Canada locations throughout the balance of 2003.

1X will provide wireless customers with access to information - anywhere, anytime. "Customers will now have faster access to corporate data, email, Intranets and each other," said Hartlen. According to Hartlen, field services, sales force automation and mobile teleworking will take on a whole new dimension.

"Remote access to corporate Intranets is one of the most popular wireless data applications today" said Hartlen. "Atlantic Canadian business users already appreciate the benefits that come from remote access, and now their workers will be able to enjoy increased mobility and speeds by using 1X."

The 1X network also provides the foundation for an entirely new generation of mobile applications offering rich media and graphics that will be introduced throughout 2003. Hartlen said these features will bring a new level of appeal for wireless devices among customers seeking a personalized, feature-rich mobile experience.
