[TI and MontaVista Software to jointly provide an embedded Linux platform for OMAP application processors targeting 2.5G and 3G handsets.]

Dallas and Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Texas Instruments and MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, announced today that they will work together to provide an embedded Linux platform for OMAP application processors to target 2.5G and 3G handsets and other applications. With the industry-leading MontaVista Linux embedded operating system and cross-development platform, embedded application developers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will be able to quickly create OMAP processor-based, multimedia-enhanced applications for advanced wireless devices, telematics, biometrics, enhanced gaming and specialized personal digital assistants (PDAs).

"Because of its flexibility and ease of use, Linux is becoming essential for many embedded applications," said David Potts, worldwide director of applications for TI's OMAP platform. "Working with MontaVista Software and Texas Instruments lets software developers leverage MontaVista Linux with its full-featured, open and rich development environment to build upon the high performance and power-efficiency of TI's OMAP processors."

MontaVista Linux will support development for many of Texas Instrument's OEM customers who are building embedded OMAP-based applications and for embedded Linux application developers using TI's Innovator Development Kit for the OMAP platform. TI and MontaVista have demonstrated this partnership in October at the Convergence Automotive Show in Detroit and in November during a technical presentation titled "Linux and the OMAP Platform for Wireless Consumer Electronics Devices" at Embedded Technology in Yokohama, Japan.

"MontaVista Software proudly adds OMAP processors to the industry-leading array of embedded CPUs that we support," said Scott Hedrick, senior product marketing manager, consumer electronics, MontaVista Software. "MontaVista Linux together with TI OMAP processors provides a powerful combination for advanced networked embedded devices and applications, such as smart phones, automotive telematics, and mobile entertainment devices."

As part of its collaboration with TI, MontaVista Software will provide a complete Linux-based development platform to enable innovation and development by third party embedded application developers. TI's OMAP family of application processors delivers high-performance processing coupled with low power consumption. OMAP processors feature an open, comprehensive software infrastructure supporting a variety of popular operating systems, including Linux, and development environments such as Java technology. Software developers who want to optimize their applications to take advantage of the digital signal processor (DSP) in the dual-core OMAP1510 and OMAP5910 devices can easily do so through familiar and easy-to-use tools and application programming interfaces (APIs). Development tools such as the Innovator Development Kit for the OMAP platform, training and technical documentation are available at www.omap.com.

Availability MontaVista Linux for the OMAP platform will be available direct from MontaVista and MontaVista distribution channels worldwide in December 2002. MontaVista Linux is purchased as a product subscription, providing the MontaVista Linux kernel, software updates, utilities, development tools, access to the MontaVista Zone and full technical support. Also available from MontaVista Software are expanded technology add-on products, including embedded Java, High-Availability technology, and powerful graphical toolkits.
