[UK based Flytxt to provide the SMS mechanic for interactive audience voting in the game show, Blind Date. ]

Granada today announced that Flytxt, the wireless marketing expert, has been chosen to provide the SMS mechanic for an exciting interactive edition of Blind Date. On the 4th of January, Blind Date's viewing audience at home will be invited to text into a short-code to vote for which lucky contestant should be picked. Viewers can also vote via phone. This is the first time in the 18 years that Blind Date has been running that the show will be live and where the audience at home has control over the winning contestant for Blind Date.

Following the explosion in activity involving SMS voting and television with shows such as 'Pop Stars The Rivals', Granada is injecting interactivity into Blind Date's format. Viewers will get the chance to vote, first of all, for which of the three female contestants should be picked for the male Blind Date and then vice versa. Viewers can vote by texting in either 'Girl' or 'Boy' followed by the number of the contestant (1,2 or 3). The votes are then counted and Cilla announces the winner before the screen is pulled back.
