Posted: 22-Jan-2003 [Source: Dow Jones via Yahoo]

[Refunds might be due to Germany 3G bidders: Deutsche Telekom AG , Vodafone Group PLC , Royal KPN NV unit E-Plus, the Telefonica and TeliaSonera AB venture Quam, MobilCom AG and mmO2 PLC unit O2.]

Berlin -- "Germany could be forced to offer a refund of around EUR8 billion to telecommunications companies that received third-generation mobile phone licenses in the summer of 2000."

"Whether the six license recipients could claim the refund depends on whether a 16% value added tax is deemed by local finance officials to have been part of the total EUR51 billion price paid to the federal government for the licenses."
