Posted: 11-Mar-2003 [Source: KPN]

[Mitsubishi, Nokia, Siemens and NEC all have new i-mode handset offerings to be part of KPN's offerings beginning in April in Europe.]

New handsets specifically designed for i-mode from current manufacturer NEC are scheduled for 2003, as well as the first from new supplier Mitsubishi. Nokia and Siemens will supply i-mode browser compatible* handsets. i-mode customers will thereby be able to choose from a broad portfolio of handsets, which is expected to further accelerate adoption.

NEC, already supplier of two i-mode handsets in Europe, has something special in store for i-mode customers. The n31i will boast an inbuilt camera, two colour screens with 65,000 colours on the main screen and 32 tone polyphonic sound. Also featuring JavaTM and multimedia messaging support, the n31i will brighten up the summer of 2003 for KPN Mobile's customers. Further additions to NEC's i-mode handset portfolio are also expected during the course of 2003.

Mitsubishi becomes the newest Japanese handset supplier on the European i-mode market with its m21i. The user-friendly m21i has a large colour screen, sleek design and polyphonic sound, providing a great platform to enjoy i-mode's colourful services. Customers can also go online with their laptop or PDA through the m21i thanks to its inbuilt infrared port. KPN Mobile's customers in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands will be able to buy the m21i from April.

Nokia's new 3650 handset will be the first model from the Finnish manufacturer that is i-mode browser compatible. With a large colour screen, built in camera and Java (MIDP 1.0) capability, the Nokia 3650 supports the latest in mobile multimedia. The 3650 will be introduced first in Germany starting in April.

The S55 is the first i-mode browser compatible handset from German manufacturer Siemens. The stylish S55 features support for Java (MIDP 1.0), multimedia messaging and BluetoothTM connectivity. Available accessories include a click-on camera and a convenient wireless headset. Sales of the S55 to i-mode customers will begin before the summer.
