[Verizon announces the Samsung SCH-a530 clamshell handset with dual color screens weighing in at 3 ounces.]

Dallas and Bedminster, NJ -- Samsung Telecommunications America, the third largest manufacturer of wireless handsets in the U.S., and Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider, are bringing to market the highly customizable SCH-a530, a clamshell designed wireless phone featuring Verizon Wireless Get It NowSM, Express NetworkSMand TXT Messaging services.

Weighing just over three ounces with a standard battery, the champagne-colored a530 features a Personal Organizer, which includes a calendar, to-do-list, calculator, scheduler, alarm and countdown features. The a530 showcases Samsung's leadership in screen technology via the phone's Super Twisted Nematic (STN) LCD screen. Flip the a530 open and the phone's main screen display supports 65,000 colors; closed the external LCD screen hosts 256-colors and animated graphics. For consumers, these displays enable the ultimate in personalization of caller ID.

Through Get It Now, customers can download applications over the air onto their phone to help them be more productive or have fun. Get It Now customers can play popular games, complete and send their expense reports to the office, personalize their a530 by assigning different tones to different callers and even view and send family photos.

With Verizon Wireless Express Network and the a530, being out of the office doesn't mean being out of the loop. When used with a laptop and Mobile Office connectivity kit, the a530 provides customers with high-speed wireless data access to corporate information, e-mail and the Internet at speeds between 40-60 kilobits per second (kbps) with bursts up to 144 kbps-similar to or better than a home dial-up connection.

The a530's two-way Short Messaging Service (SMS) capabilities accommodate the rising use of messaging services in the U.S. Customers can use Verizon Wireless' TXT Messaging service to send notes to friends, reminders to their teens or to discreetly communicate with the office.

The a530, which retails for $199.99 with a two-year contract after a $50 rebate, is available at all Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online at www.verizonwireless.com. The Mobile Office Connectivity Kit, also available at Verizon Wireless Communications stores, is $69.99.

Verizon Wireless encourages customers who are upgrading their wireless phone to the new a530 to participate in its exclusive HopeLineSM phone recycling program. The national HopeLine program distributes previously owned wireless phones to victims of domestic violence, supports non-profit domestic violence advocacy groups and provides an environmentally safe method of recycling phones. Donations are accepted at all 1,200-plus Verizon Wireless Communications Stores across the country. For additional information, customers can also visit www.verizonwireless.com/hopeline.
