Posted: 03-Sep-2003 [Source: Sony Ericsson]

[In conjunction with Sony Dreamworld in Paris, Sony Ericsson announces the T230, Z200 and Z600 GSM/GPRS handsets.]

T230: Sony Ericsson pioneered the colour-screen GSM mobile phone market and now has a strong diverse portfolio of imaging, gaming and entertainment phones, to which the T230 is a strong addition in the entry-level segment. The T230 features easy to use screen menus for fast, intuitive access to fun games, polyphonic ringtones and picture messaging, and a five-way navigation key that not only enhances mobile game play but also contributes to the easy operation of the phone. Ideal for voice and text communication, the T230 can easily expand into other areas.

Compatible with the CommuniCam(tm)digital camera clip-on phone accessory and equipped with a high quality 4K colour screen, 32-tone polyphonic sound and navigation key, the T230 provides an excellent gaming and imaging experience. Downloadable games capability ensures the phone can remain exciting and original way after the first user experience.

The T230 has a 4,096 colour display, inspiring consumers to use colour pictures and other graphics to personalize their phone; themes, wallpapers, games and other content is available for download at www.SonyEricsson.com. When used with a MCA-30 CommuniCam VGA camera accessory, the T230 is ready to take, view and send images, using the screen as a viewfinder. Images can be sent as e-mail to a computer or as MMS (Multimedia messaging) straight to another mobile phone. With the T230, several slides, each containing pictures, fun layers, sound and text, can be sent in one message.

For those who want to try their hand at mobile gaming, the T230 features embedded colour games, with additional games and new levels available for download at www.SonyEricsson.com and many other web sites. The T230 games are fast moving with vibration and sound feedback for a realistic gaming experience. The T230 utilizes the Mophun gaming engine, as the Sony Ericsson T300, T310 and T610 phones, and there are currently around 60 Morphun games available for download.

Developed with a focus on messaging, entertainment and ease-of-use, the T230 will be a perfect match for consumers who want a full-featured, reliable colour-screen phone at the right price. The T230 will be available in GSM-markets in Q4 2003. The previously announced T226 is now available in North America.

Z200: Clamshell phones with rich personalization features are fast becoming this season's must have for young people, and the unique and playful design of the Z200 is bound to be an instant hit. For instance the loop at the top of the phone can be used as a strap holder, the off-center placement of the round status display and the uniquely shaped 5-way navigation key create a phone that breaks away from the conventional design of most other clamshell phones available today.

The Z200 offers several personalization features such as exchangeable Style-Up(tm) front covers, full colour wallpapers and 40-tone polyphonic ring tones that can be tailored to fit any mood or style. The front panel of the Z200 can be changed with Style-Up covers, so the outside of the phone can be coordinated with the user's appearance or mood to create that special look. The phone comes with 2 sets of Style-Up covers and additional options are available as accessories. The Z200 is fitted with a 4K colour display, which makes viewing images and wallpapers a joy. Users that want to use a picture or a part of picture stored on their computer as a wallpaper can use the Sony Ericsson Image Editor software which comes with the phone.

The Z200 supports 40 voices, which gives it excellent sound quality for ring tones as well as for gaming. The more voices a phone supports, the more like real music it sounds. On the Fun & Downloads section Sony Ericsson's website, there are lots of free ring tones available, some of which have been composed especially for the Z200. Three popular games are pre-loaded in the Z200 -- Mini-golf, Alien Scum and Honey Cave. The phone provides great gameplay due to the polyphonic sound and force-feedback effects.

Z600: Sony Ericsson introduced QuickShare(tm) with the T610 phone, giving users the smartest, fastest and easiest way to share images over the mobile network or between devices. Two key presses and a picture is taken, six presses and the picture is sent off to someone. The user interface is intuitive and colorful, the display clear and bright and the ways to connect the phone to other devices are many. The Z600 is a true QuickShare product, featuring a built-in camera, bright 65,536 colour TFD display and a range of easy-to-use imaging applications. With the help of its imaging capabilities, a picture can be taken with only two rapid clicks, and then in four further steps sent by MMS or e-mail away. It is also possible to exchange pictures from the Z600 directly over a Bluetooth connection, or even drag and drop pictures to a PC.

The Z600 is distinguished from the growing clamshell product offering in the market by its stylish shape and exchangeable front and back Style-Up covers. These covers, which were designed in cooperation with Sony Digital Design, are available as accessories and come in an array of colours and patterns that shall allow consumers to completely change the look of their Z600, coordinating it with their clothes, car or mood. The theme of personalisation is continued on the inside of the phone with the large colour display ideal for Style-Up themes, images or wallpapers. The phone comes with preloaded themes matching all standard covers and additional themes will be available for download from the Fun & Downloads section of www.SonyEricsson.com.

A second display on the outside of the phone shows information such as caller ID, time, network and battery status. The Z600 also has a dedicated speaker for the 32-voice polyphonic sound, which reproduces musical ringtones and boosts the sound effects of the mobile games. For the aspiring music producer, there is the Music DJ, feature, a 4-track music creation tool, with which consumers can create their own great-sounding ring signals and also send them to their friends.

The Z600 comes with several enticing embedded games, most notable V-Rally2, which is one of the most popular racing games for game consoles. It provides for hours of fun, played either by a single player or racing against somebody over Bluetooth. For maximum flexibility in game downloading, the phone supports both Java and Mophun game engines, opening up for a wide variety of games, both from Fun & Downloads at www.SonyEricsson.com and other sites. The Multi-Action keypad allows for simultaneous key-presses, to for instance move and shoot at the same time. For the devoted mobile gamer, there is a new game console accessory, Gameboard EGB-10, which gives a true console-style feeling to playing mobile games.
