Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR - TSX: SW) announced today its MP 555 GPS rugged wireless modem has been certified by Sprint (NYSE: FON, PCS) for operation on the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network, the first wireless carrier to do so in the United States. Under an agreement, Sierra Wireless and Sprint will work together to market and sell the MP 555 GPS in-vehicle mobile solution through the PCS Business Solutions Program (BSP), primarily targeting public safety and utility departments that will benefit most from a fast, durable, and feature-rich wireless modem. Distributors include BSP members GWD (Global Wireless Data), Ingram Micro, Insight and TrioTek.

The new MP is designed to offer higher data speeds, greater access to mission critical information, and enhanced mobility while operating over CDMA2000 1X wireless networks with speeds up to 153 kbps. The product also operates in extreme temperatures and meets US Military and SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) J1455 specifications for vibration, shock, and humidity.
