KPN Brings the Voq Smartphone to the Netherlands

Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR - TSX: SW) announced today that it has signed an agreement with KPN to launch and sell the Voq(tm) Professional Phone and the VoqMail(tm) Professional Edition product to customers in the Netherlands. The new Voq Professional Phone, a pocketable Microsoft Windows Mobile(tm) based SmartPhone developed by Sierra Wireless, is expected to be commercially available to KPN customers in the second quarter of 2004.

Designed for business professionals, the Voq Professional Phone is a new class of mobile phone that offers the best features of a mobile phone, a personal messaging device, and a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) - in one. The product offers a flip-open QWERTY thumbpad and easy-to-use software solutions including VoqMail, a secure, Always-there(tm) e-mail solution that requires no additional enterprise server or desktop redirector software to purchase, install, and maintain. The Voq phone will also offer unique search, send, and store capabilities delivered by the myVoq(tm) software application for easy and predictive search, storage, and sending of data.

The new Voq phone will operate over KPN's GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) network that offers global roaming.

Powered by an Intel Xscale processor, the Voq Professional Phone is based on Microsoft Windows Mobile(tm) 2003 software and offers a rich telephony experience with the addition of a unique flip-open QWERTY thumbpad. The Voq Professional Phone provides: Phone-first capabilities with the power of a PDA and ability to sync to a Windows-based computer; The best features of mobile phone, messaging and PDA in a single device - resulting in lower cost, ease-of use, and fewer devices;

The ultimate e-mail experience with secure, always-there e-mail and alerts, supporting standard, broadly deployed VPN and business e-mail systems including Microsoft Exchange(tm), Lotus Notes(tm), and Novell GroupWise(tm);

Powerful search, send and storage capabilities with myVoq, which also offers the ability to enhance business applications and mobile web services.

Sierra Wireless showcased the Voq Professional Phone at the 3GSM World Congress 2004 in Cannes, France from February 23 to 26, 2004.
