CTIA Atlanta -- Siemens Mobile today unveiled the new CF62 clamshell mobile phone, the company's first flip phone for North America. Sporting a loop antenna and programmable lights around its edges, the phone will connect with consumers seeking a new, clever, clamshell design. The CF62 is an international communications device that operates on the Global System for Mobile communications (GSM(TM)) 900/1800/1900 MHz frequencies. Siemens also will introduce the CF63 in North America, with features similar to the CF62 in many respects except frequency. The CF63 operates on 850/1800/1900 MHz frequencies. The phones are expected be available in the third quarter of 2004.
The loop antenna gives the CF62 what a spoiler gives a sports car -- style. The phone features a silver and gray exterior with an external blue backlight monochrome display and an internal display of up to 65,536 colors with amber backlight on the keypad. The CF62 also offers a new illumination concept with its dynamic light illumination ring around the edge of the phone. For personalized visual information, consumers can create blinking light patterns for the illumination ring that correspond with incoming calls, message indications and phone use.
With Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), users can incorporate images, sounds and animation into their text messages. Approximately 1.5MB of flexible memory allows consumers to store a variety of useful and entertaining content, such as extra games and ring tones, to supplement those that come standard on the phone. The CF62 features up to 16 polyphonic chords, which add a rich sound to ring tones, audio files and gaming. Consumers can capture the moment, even in low-light situations, by attaching an optional camera with integrated flash (camera sold separately).
