[Vodafone KK announces five new handsets for summer 2004: the V602SH by Sharp, V601T by Toshiba, V401D by Mitsubishi Electric, the V401SA by Sanyo, and the V402SH by Sharp.]

Tokyo -- The V602SH is the world's first mobile handset to feature an optical zoom function. Combined with its high specification 2.02 megapixel autofocus OCD camera, the V602SH approaches the ease-of-use of true digital cameras without compromising the size and functionality of current mobile handsets. To schieve this, the V602SH uses a 'swivel style' design that allows the LCD screen to be reversed 180 degrees. The V602SH also represents a new handest to be commercializes as part of Vodafone KK's new handset design initiative.

The V602SH and V601T are the first 2G handsets in Japan that can play Chaku-uta ringsongs. Chaku-uta (a trademark of Sony Music Entertainment, Inc.) allows customers to download songs by their favorite artits and set them as call alerts. The V601T also features a large 22mm front speaker and can play ringtones with 64 voices. Both handsets feature a multitude of new features and services such as Movie Mask facialmotion capture technology, Keitai Karaoke V-kara to let customers enjoy karaoke by connecting to a TV and 256K ver. 2 Java applications for high-speedmobile games with beautiful graphics.

The V601T includes a special microphone on the side of the handset for singing karaoke, the T4G graphics accelerator chip and Mascot Capsule Ver. 4. Customers can also enjoy authentic 3D games on a wide screen by connecting the handset to a TV. The V601T features video recording allowing a maximum QVGA (320x240 pixels) size and 15 frames per second for high-quality video. Captured photos and video can also be displayed on a larger screen by connecting the handset to a TV.

The V401D by Mitsubishi Electric features a Super CCD Honeycom camera capable of recording 2.0 megapixels. The V401D can also record up to 60 seconds of video in addition to still photographs. It offers the industry's first control pad operated by finger tracing so customer's can easily operate functions like screen scrolling and camera zoom by finger tracing. The handset also comes with a jump touch feature that allows one to record often-used functions under different tracing methods so desired functions can be called up instantly.

The V401SA by Sanyo features a built-in FM radio tuner with stereo sound and can receive TV audio. It also comes equipped with a built-in 1.3 megapixel CMOS camera. The V401SA comes with a high-capacity 12MB data folder for storing lots of photos to memory. In addition, the V401SA is compatible with Pict Bridge so one can make printouts by directly connecting to a printer.

Sharp's V402SH features a built-in terrestrial analog TV tuner for viewing tlelevision programs while on the go. It has a 2.2" QVGA high-quality display. FM radio broadcasts are also available via the analog TV tuner. It has a swivel-style design allowing the LCD screen to be reversed 180 degrees for watching TV horizontally on the large screen while the handset is closed. The back side features a 1.3 megapixel CCD camera and the reversible LCD screen can be used as a viewfinder when the handset is closed. It comes with a Postcard Maker application that allows one to easily make postcards using photographs saved to memory and a host of other fun photo applications for processing pictures.
