BT launches Wireless Home Monitoring
Posted: 28-May-2004 [Source: BT]

[BT's 'redcare home monitoring' uses a combination of wired and wireless to insure alarm delivery.]

For the first time homeowners can enjoy affordable world class security with the launch of the only burglar and intruder alarm system exclusively designed for general domestic use - and to provide priority police response if it is activated. Home monitoring from BT redcare - BT's specialist alarm signalling and remote monitoring division - is based on the industry leading redcare family of business and commercial systems and complies with all current requirements for priority police response. It also meets the newly introduced European standards for intruder alarms.

BT redcare home monitoring uses both a fixed telephone line and a mobile link to ensure alarms get through to the monitoring centre. The control box in the customer's home continuously monitors its connection to the system as, if one path fails, or is cut, the other sends an alert through the redcare system to the alarm receiving centre. Additionally test signals are regularly sent over each circuit.

Most existing domestic signalling systems are based on unmonitored digital communicators. These send alerts only when activated and do not let alarm receiving centres know if the line has been tampered with or has failed for any other reason and may not qualify for immediate police response under current standards.

Jon Furmston, chief executive of BT redcare, said: "BT redcare home monitoring is a robust and cost effective solution for anyone who wants to protect his or her home from intruders. New industry standards, an ever tightening police policy on false alarms and a more threatening environment all emphasise the need for individuals to take responsibility for their own protection rather than relying on others. Old style alarm bells and unmonitored systems neither deter determined intruders nor meet the increasingly stringent requirements of police and insurers.

"BT redcare is the acknowledged leader in monitored alarm technology in the commercial sector and we are justifiably proud that it is a system which has never been compromised. So we are especially pleased that we've now been able to tailor a system that fits the needs and pocket of home owners throughout the country."

BT redcare home monitoring is available now from registered installers. More details and lists and contacts for installers can be found by visiting www.redcare.bt.com.
