Samsung looking to sell CDMA handsets using its own chipset to Indian carrier
Posted: 21-Jul-2004 [Source: Mobile Tech News]

[Samsung is reported to be in negotiations with Reliance Infocomm, an Indian mobile provider, for the purchase of CDMA handsets using Samsung's independently developed chipset.]

Mobile Tech News -- Telecoms Korea has reported that Samsung will be shipping CDMA mobile phones incorporating its own chipset to Reliance Infocomm, an Indian mobile provider operating a CDMA 1X technology platform. The phones are expected to be the "candy bar" form factor and will be higher priced than mobile phones released to mass markets. A Samsung official noted that the handsets supplied to Reliance would have a chipset "independently developed by Samsung."

Samsung has previously provided CDMA handsets utilizing its own chipset to Korean carrier KTF beginning in May of 2003.

In an agreement with Qualcomm, Samsung is not allowed to sell its chipset to other handset manufacturers, but is allowed to export them directly.
