Asia emerges as world's largest telecom market
Posted: 07-Sep-2004 [Source: The Korea Herald]

["Teledensity" numbers in Asian countries continue to expand with China, India, Thailand and the Philippines showing impressive growth rates in recent years.]

By Rambabu Garikipati -- "What could be the region's trump card is the fact that it contains two of the world's biggest markets - China and India. Both have seen torrid growth in mobile telecommunications and both have tremendous potential for much more growth.

The latest statistics of the International Telecommunication Union show that Asia continues to maintain a large lead over other regions, accounting for 1.03 billion telephone subscriptions in 2003, followed by Europe with 766.81 million subscriptions and the United States with 566.55 million subscriptions."
