T-Mobile Germany expands its portfolio of mobile devices
Posted: 15-Sep-2004 [Source: T-Mobile]

[T-Mobile Germany announces the SDA Music Windows Mobile OS SmartPhone and other new generation handsets.]

Germany's leading mobile communications provider has expanded its portfolio again with a variety of state-of-the-art devices, some of which are exclusively available only for T-Mobile customers.

"The cell phone's looks and functions are important factors when deciding which cell phone to buy," said Martin Knauer, Marketing Director at T-Mobile Deutschland. "For example, we are defining an absolutely new generation of music-capable cell phones with our SDA Music phone, because the combination of cell phone and MP3 Player is unique at this time. The extraordinary design of the device will impress you as will the extensive multimedia functions -- and at a very attractive price."

The SDA Music phone lets T-Mobile customers enjoy an exclusive listening experience. The first Smart Phone with the Windows Mobile operating system not only allows access to Microsoft applications like Outlook, but also can be used to relax after work thanks to the integrated audio player. Other highlights of the device include an integrated VGA camera for taking photos and videos, an MP3 player and a stereo headset. The Motorola E398 is also optimally suited for mobile music services. Two integrated stereo speakers and special light and vibration effects provide an impressive 3D sound experience. Both cell phones support T-Mobile's Mobile Jukebox service.

Besides the Mobile Music services, the new T-Mobile cell phones can send pictures and videos in the best quality. Models like the MDA compact and the LG L5100 have an integrate mega-pixel camera, that can produce pictures of almost print quality. The T-Mobile Portfolio includes devices, which support broadband data transmission via UMTS and not only let you download video streams via Internet, but also play concert clips or watch the news in TV quality on your cell phone. You can play video files without buffering, i.e. directly as a video stream using the Samsung SGH-Z107, the Motorola E1000 or the Nokia 6630.

The new T-Mobile cell phones for business customers are as individual as their users. Whether you want to edit e-mails, compare schedules, send MMS text messages or download music - there is a suitable model in the T-Mobile device family for every desire.

T-Mobile's MDA, with a market share of about 40 percent, makes it the leading PDA phone in Germany. T-Mobile is the first mobile communications provider to present the first W-LAN capable device with its MDA III. The device can also be used at locations featuring W-LAN technology (W-LAN, Wireless Local Area Network) -- for example, at T-Mobile and T-Com HotSpots. The MDA III has an extendible, complete keyboard so you can comfortably enter text, for example when writing an e-mail, or sending an MMS or SMS text message. The e-mail push service will probably be available in the course of this year.

The SDA is directed at users who prefer a cell phone for mobile communication, but also want to use functions like e-mail or a calendar. The SDA provides for these functions using the Microsoft operating system Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003. Windows Mobile lets you receive and send e-mail, as well as manage your appointments using the SDA. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files can be easily read in the device's large display. The MDA III and the SDA will soon be offered by T-Mobile also without a camera, to meet the requirements of the business market.

As the first, German cell phone provider, T-Mobile is marketing a laptop card, which allows the use of mobile radio networks based on GPRS, UMTS and W-LAN. The multimedia net card GPRS/UMTS/W-LAN lets laptop owners have access to the fastest, available mobile radio network, depending on the location, for processing e-mail, surfing the Internet or accessing applications in the intranet. The basis for the data transmission in areas with UMTS-provision is the UMTS, for a T-Mobile HotSpot it is the W-LAN, and for all other locations, it is the GPRS technology in the T-Mobile network. The communication software delivered with the multimedia net card not only makes it easy to install the card, but also makes the use of functions like e-mail or VPN access uncomplicated.
