Wireless Service Providers Should Take Actions Before Deploying EV-DO
Posted: 25-Sep-2004 [Source: Birdgewater Systems]

[Bridgewater Systems encourages operators to take steps to better manage EV-DO network usage to ensure a positive end-user experience.]

"The challenge for wireless service providers is that bandwidth is scarce and EV-DO offers always-on high-speed services. Thus, they risk an over-consumption of limited bandwidth, which is generally offered on an unlimited basis to subscribers.

In many broadband networks, five percent of subscribers are known to use up to 50 percent of bandwidth. These few heavy users who utilize resource-intensive applications such as peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing and gaming in wireless networks may not only spoil the experience of other users but also devastate current wireless business models."
