Posted: 01-Oct-2004 [Source: Linksys]

[Linksys next version of their Wireless-G Internet Video Camera features a security mode which detects motion and automatically records video and audio and sends an e-mail alert including a short video clip.]

Linksys announced the availability of the Wireless-G Internet Video Camera (WVC54G), a new device providing users a unique and affordable way to monitor the home and office via a web browser, from anywhere in the world where the user has Internet access. This compact, self-contained unit sends a high-quality live video stream with sound through the Internet. Unlike standard "web cams" requiring an attached PC, the Internet Video Camera contains its own IP address, so users can easily connect to an existing Ethernet or Wireless network.

Once connected to the home or office network, either mounted on a wall or positioned on a desk-top in its own stand, the Wireless-G Internet Video Camera allows users to see the clear camera view of an office or any room in the home.

Advanced features of the Wireless-G Internet Video Camera include a Security mode. When the camera detects motion, it begins to record the video and audio feed and alongside sends an e-mail alert to the office, a pager or a cell phone. Up to three e-mail alerts can be sent simultaneously, including a short video clip in an email attachment.

Key Product Features:

* Sends a high-quality live video stream (up to 640x480) to your network * Built-in stand-alone web server, no PC necessary

* Easy installation - connects easily to an existing Ethernet or Wireless-G network

* Security mode automatically sends email alerts with video clips upon motion detection

* Supports up to four simultaneous remote users

* Built-in Microphone (Also accepts external Mic)

* LCD Display of Camera's IP Address

* Includes a Viewer & Recorder utility*

* SoloLink(tm) Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS) Service**

*Viewer and Recorder Utility

The Internet video camera includes a Viewer & Recorder utility, which lets users record the audio and video stream with date and time stamp to a local hard drive "live" or on a predetermined schedule. This is ideal for people who would like to view activities that took place the day the camera was recording.

**SoloLink(tm) Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS) Service

Linksys is also offering an optional service that makes the use and access of its wireless home products easier and friendlier. Many Internet providers assign a new IP address to a connection from time to time or anytime an Internet connection is restarted. The SoloLink(tm) service is a DDNS service that keeps track of the IP address of the camera, even when it changes, with an easy to remember web address the customer selects so the camera's video stream can be found quickly and easily. All customers receive a free 90-day trial of the SoloLink service with the purchase of the Wireless-G Video Camera. The price of the SoloLink service starts at $19.99 for a 1-year subscription.
