Trend Micro Mobile Security announced
Posted: 06-Dec-2004 [Source: Trend Micro]

[Trend Micro offers its new Mobile Security application free until June 2005 providing antivirus and anti-spam protection for SMS messaging customers using data-centric mobile phones and PDAs.]

Cupertino, Calif. -- Trend Micro, Inc., a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services, today announced the availability of Trend Micro(TM) Mobile Security, providing antivirus and anti-spam protection for SMS messaging customers using data-centric mobile phones and PDAs.

Industry analysts predict that due to the rising popularity of data- centric mobile phones and PDAs, these devices will become an attractive target for virus writers. TrendLabs(SM), Trend Micro's global network of antivirus research centers, identified in 2004 a number of proof-of-concept viruses for mobile phones, such as SYMBOS_SKULLS.A (a Trojan which targets Series 60 phones with the Symbian operating system, particularly Nokia 7610 models) and SYMBOS_CABIR.A (a worm which spreads through BLUETOOTH-enabled Series 60 phones); it is likely that further attacks on such devices will occur in the future.

With the arrival of the holiday season, many people will be purchasing or receiving new handhelds as gifts. With this in mind, Trend Micro is offering its customers a holiday gift, by providing this first edition of Trend Micro Mobile Security free of charge until June 2005.

Trend Micro Mobile Security is compatible with devices from a number of the most popular handset providers, such as the Motorola MPx220, the O2 XPhone, the Sagem myS-7 and the Orange SPV e200.

Availability:

Trend Micro Mobile Security is available immediately for devices using the Microsoft(TM) Windows Mobile(TM) 2003 operating system (examples: Motorola MPx200, MPx220, O2 XPhone, Orange SPV C500). Devices using the Symbian OS v7.0 with UIQ v2.0/2.1 user interface will be supported in January 2005 (examples: Sony Ericsson P800, P900, P910, Motorola A920, A925, A1000). Mobile phones and PDAs using the Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC-Phone Edition (examples: HP iPAQ, Samsung SPH-i700) and Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition (examples: Dell Axim, HP iPAQ, Siemens SX66) will also be supported in January. Trend Micro Mobile Security version 1.0 expires June 2005.
