Cingular offers mobile photo postcards
Posted: 08-Dec-2004 [Source: Cingular]

[Cingular offers personalized Fujifilm Mobile Photo Postcards for creating and sending postcards via US mail directly from a compatible mobile phone.]

Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, now offers customers the opportunity to use their camera phones to create personalized Fujifilm photo postcards and send them to anyone in the country via U.S. mail directly from their compatible Cingular phones. Cell phone handsets that support Mobile Photo Postcards include the Motorola V551, V220, V3, V400 and V600. More handset models will be added shortly.

The new, first-of-its-kind, photo postcard application for wireless phones called Mobile Postcards(TM) is the result of a partnership between Cingular and Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc.

From standard designs such as travel or baby motifs to special-occasion cards like holidays and birthdays, Cingular customers have a variety of fun themes from which to choose. Cingular customers simply select a postcard design and a photo from their camera phone, add a personal message, address it, and press "send" to mail it -- quickly, simply and wirelessly through the U.S. Postal Service.

An actual physical postcard will be mailed to the addressee. Mobile Postcards can be a modern twist to the traditional "Wish You Were Here!" postcard or serve as a state-of-the-art, digital alternative to Valentine's Day or other holiday greeting cards.

"The beauty of the Mobile Postcard application is that it allows our camera phone customers to share a personal photo and message with anyone through the mail," said Nancy Garvey, vice president and general manager for Cingular Wireless. "And best of all, it's convenient. You can purchase and mail a personalized card anytime, directly from your phone."

All that's needed to create a personalized photo postcard is Cingular Wireless service and a compatible Cingular camera phone. To download the postcard application directly from the phone, customers simply login to the Wireless Internet, select What's Hot from the main menu, and click on Mail a Postcard. After the initial download, the customer can access the postcard application anytime under the Games and Apps section of their phone.

This new Fujifilm mobile imaging application was developed in conjunction with Summus (SUMU), a leading provider of mobile media applications that optimize the consumer wireless experience.

The Mobile Postcard application can be downloaded at no charge on any Cingular camera phone via the Multimedia Store menu in Cingular's MEdia Net. Customers must have the Multimedia Messaging feature on their Cingular account to add a picture to the Postcard.

The cost for creating and mailing the postcard is $1.99 each, postage included. The charge will be billed directly to customers' monthly Cingular phone bill.
