LG enters Korean number portability frenzy January 1
Posted: 27-Dec-2004 [Source: The Korea Herald]

[Korea's churn wars set to heat up again as LG Telecom, number three behind SK Telecom and KTF, comes under number portability fire beginning January 1.]

By Kim Tong-hyung -- "Telecom companies said yesterday that nearly 3 million mobile-phone users switched service providers this year through number portability, which allows them to move to other carriers while keeping their numbers.

Number portability, which went into effect Jan. 1, was intended to help level the playing field for the country's three mobile-phone carriers -SK Telecom, KTF and LG Telecom. The government applied number portability to market leader SK Telecom in January and expanded the policy to encompass KTF in July. LG Telecom customers will be granted the option starting Jan. 1."
