Study Finds 3G Will Fuel Future Mobile Growth

[New report from TelecomView projects 3G will have more than 300 million subscribers and generate more than $200 billion in revenue in 2009.]

San Francisco -- 3G will help to maintain the strong momentum in the mobile market, particularly in the most advanced countries according to TelecomView's new report, 3G: Taking Mobile to the Next Level. This report identifies the factors that will make 3G succeed.

"This report identifies that declining voice ARPUs will start eroding mobile revenues," stated Bob Larribeau, Principal Analyst at TelecomView and coauthor of the report. "Without a strong shift to data services the mobile carriers will experience a significant revenue decline."

The report identifies the service and deployment strategies of the major 3G operators. It examines technology and regulatory issues and discusses network convergence and the positive effect of 3G services on ARPU. The report provides a detailed global and regional forecast for 3G services and handsets.

"Our projections show that 3G data revenue will more than overcome losses in voice revenue," said Ian Cox, Principal Analyst at TelecomView and the other coauthor of the report. "In fact we believe that 2G subscriptions will start to decline after 2007 as subscribers move to 3G services." He went on to state, "3G will let the operators transition to a data-based service and will enable the network convergence that will bring new efficiencies and attractive new service models."
