TI announced a new wireless platform that combines applications and modem functionalities and allows handset manufacturers to easily scale across multiple market segments for GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS standards. Built on TI's OMAP(TM) processor technology, the new OMAP-Vox(TM) family of solutions merges both modem and applications functionality onto the existing OMAP architecture.
OMAP-Vox solutions share a common software platform that can be re-used for a variety of growing market requirements and bring overall development costs down. By enabling extensive modem and applications software re-use from 2.5G to 3G and across market segments, the OMAP-Vox platform saves manufacturers years of software design effort. This allows manufacturers to quickly bring a variety of handsets to market to meet the high-volume needs of the 2.5G marketplace today with a quick migration to 3G.
The first product in this new family is the OMAPV1030 GSM/GPRS/EDGE chipset, one of the industry's most integrated and optimized solutions to enable mid-range multimedia devices. The OMAPV1030 baseband processor design is built on TI's leading modem and OMAP technology.
The OMAPV1030 enables applications such as QCIF 30 frames per second video capture, playback and streaming; megapixel digital still camera; color LCD; and interactive 2D/3D gaming. The OMAPV1030 solution is sampling now with volume production expected in 3Q05.
