Nashville, TN -- Marking a major wireless milestone, Cingular Wireless recently announced that it has signed its 50 millionth customer. To celebrate Cingular has named Donna Hennig, a Nashville resident, honorary 50 millionth customer in Tennessee.
"Attaining 50 million customers is a key indicator that our merger with AT&T Wireless is working and working well," said Jim McHargue, Cingular's Director of Sales for Middle Tennessee. "Fifty million customers, which is more than three million more than we had as of October 1 of last year, means that better than one in every four wireless phones in America is at home on the Cingular Wireless network."
In 2004 Cingular spent approximately $120 million dollars for network enhancements across the Tennessee/Kentucky region resulting in greater coverage and enhanced service for local customers. The company turned on 160 new cell sites across the two states - the equivalent of nearly one site activated every other day.
This year, Cingular plans to spend more than $175 million dollars to add hundreds of new cell sites and network enhancements across Tennessee/Kentucky. The company plans to build more than 100 new cell sites across the two states. In addition, Cingular will "cherry pick" nearly 400 cell sites from the existing AT&T Wireless network and add them to Cingular's coverage area.
