Motorola to intro low-end handsets in China
Posted: 29-Apr-2005 [Source: xinhuanet.com]

[Motorola looking to expand market share by introducing US$40 handsets in the Chinese market.]

Beijing -- "Motorola hoped to sell phones for as little as US$40 in China, its second-largest market, as part of an aggressive plan to claw market share from rivals such as Nokia, senior executives said.

Ed Zander, chief executive of the world's second-largest maker of mobile phones, declined to divulge rollout details or sales targets for the planned cheap phones -- to be launched in emerging markets by operators following a deal with the GSMA (GSM Association) announced earlier this year.

But Mary Lamb, the U.S. firm's Asia Pacific director of communications, said she believed the Motorola phones, which should cost under US$50, would be launched in China."
