Skype Zones announced:
Boingo Wireless and Skype today announced Skype Zones - Powered by Boingo service, offering global Wi-Fi access to Skype customers.
Skype Zones enables Skype's more than 45 million users to access Skype's Internet telephony via Boingo's network of 18,000 Wi-Fi hot spots worldwide using a custom Skype version of the award-winning Boingo Software. Unlimited Wi-Fi access for Skype Internet telephony calls is available for $7.95 per month. Skype Zones is currently a beta service, and terms and availability may change.
Skype users simply log on to the Skype Zones service using the Skype Zones - Powered by Boingo software, which includes Boingo's Wi-Fi sniffer, connection management and roaming authentication capabilities. Once connected, users can make Skype calls and access key features such as presence, global user directory, contact lists and instant messages with the Skype software.
EpyxMobile software launches:
Vendex International Ltd. announced the launch of its free software, EpyxMobile, on July 11, 2005 which for the first time enables people to make free calls from their mobile phones to users of Skype, the hugely successful Internet telephony network.
Using a standard Bluetooth connection, the software, which takes minutes to download and install, bridges the gap between free VoIP and standard GSM mobile networks, taking mobile communications into new and uncharted territory.
The software is compatible with SkypeOut, which means that the 1.2 million SkypeOut users will now be able to make their calls from their mobile instead of their PC and continue to benefit from low cost rates.
