[A free Wi-Fi hotspot has launched in the Washington D.C. Dupont Circle neighborhood. Sponsored by TechAssist LLC and additional sponsors, it is the first corporate-sponsored hotspot in the D.C. area.]
TechAssist and its sponsors, the Allied Telecom Group, the Jurys Washington Hotel and the Law Office of Koltun & King, have launched Free Dupont Wireless, a free wireless hotspot throughout Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C. The Circle contains major residential areas and businesses, including foreign embassies, museums and institutions, national and local historic buildings, as well as approximately 14,000 residents. Although the coverage area is the Dupont Circle, access may be available in blocks surrounding the circle.
Free Dupont Wireless offers speeds at 3 megabits per second. However, performance is dependent upon weather, number of users, and traffic on surrounding access points.
TechAssist provided the engineering expertise to design, implement, and support the hotspot as well as the equipment. Allied Telecom supplies the bandwidth available to hotspot users. The Jury's Doyle Hotel provides rooftop access for the equipment. The Law Offices of Koltun and King provided legal expertise for the development of the Acceptable Use Policy.
TechAssist is currently surveying other Washington, D.C. areas for future free hotspot zones and is seeking additional sponsors.
