Qualcomm and Access Bring i-mode to MSM Chipsets

Tokyo -- Qualcomm and Access announced that Access' i-mode Global Profile, a profile in Access' Net Front(tm) Mobile Client Suite, will be supported on Qualcomm's Mobile Station Modem(tm) (MSM) chipset solutions. The availability of Access' i-mode Global Profile solution on select MSM chipsets provides device manufacturers with accelerated entry into the global i-mode market and ensures a wide variety of next-generation devices for i-mode operators.

Qualcomm and Access are working together to optimize and port Access' i-mode Global Profile solution to select MSM chipsets. The i-mode solution will be built entirely on Qualcomm's Open BREWapi(tm) software. Support for the solution will initially be available on the MSM6250 chipset, part of Qualcomm's Multimedia Platform of single-chip solutions that deliver engaging multimedia devices and applications. Other chips in the Multimedia and Enhanced Multimedia Platforms are also planned to support i-mode. Access' i-mode Global solution will be available directly from Access to handset manufacturers.

Multimedia and Enhanced Platform chipsets support the Launchpad suite of advanced multimedia, connectivity, position location, user interface and removable storage functionality, including QUALCOMM's gpsOne solution, the world's most broadly deployed assisted-GPS handset technology.

The Multimedia and Enhanced Multimedia Platform chipsets also support the BREW solution which enables the development and monetization of advanced applications and content, allowing operators and OEMs to differentiate their products and services and increase revenues. QUALCOMM's chipsets are also compatible with the Java runtime environment (J2ME) which can be built entirely on the chipset as an extension to the BREW client.
