[DiBcom announces major order of DIB7000-H, DVB-H chipset, from a leading cell phone manufacturer for delivery in Q206.]
Palaiseau, France -- DiBcom announced today that it has received a major order of DIB7000-H from a leading cell phone manufacturer for delivery in volume beginning in Q2'06 for the European market. The DIB7000-H, the world's first DVB-H chipset for receiving digital terrestrial TV in accordance with the DVB-H standard, was introduced one year ago.
"We are very proud to confirm an order we recently received from a leading cell phone manufacturer, underscoring the quality and proven performance of our DVB-H chipset. After our success in the automotive and mobile PC segments, this is our entrance into the nascent and promising mobile phone TV market," said Yannick Levy, CEO of DiBcom. "The launch of this new cell phone is proving that DVB-H is becoming a real market and DiBcom is excited to have been the pioneer."
The fact that there is an actual market for DVB-H deployment has also been proven by the announcement by several countries in Europe, including Italy, Netherlands, Northern Germany and Finland, to convert initial trials to real commercial services in 2006. DiBcom believes that this will accelerate the regulatory process in all other European countries.
"Mobile TV should drive a shift to higher end phones with greater silicon content," said Randy Abrams, analyst in Credit Suisse's Semiconductor Group. "We anticipate a mobile TV chipset selling for $5-7 in volumes by 2009, creating a $1 billion market opportunity at 15% handset penetration."
The DIB7000-H is the demodulator that allows a cell phone to receive DVB-H signals with very low-power consumption and optimized reception quality. It has been already selected by several cell phone manufacturers around the world.
