[Philips launches its second generation 3G Nexperiea cellular system solution, the 7210, supporting UMTS EDGE Dual Transfer Mode (DTM).]
Eindhoven, the Netherlands -- Royal Philips Electronics has raised the standard for next-generation 3G phones with the launch of a new multimedia cellular system solution. The Nexperia(tm) cellular system solution 7210 delivers rich entertainment functions with low power consumption and features including advanced audio, video, Digital Video Broadcast-Handheld (DVB-H) and FM radio capability for developers of new handsets. Supporting UMTS EDGE Dual Transfer Mode (DTM), the complete solution enables consumers to easily connect to a multimedia-rich experience, whatever the network, anytime, anywhere.
With deployment of 3G networks still being in the early stages, coverage on the network is not necessarily available everywhere. 3G mobile handset users want to have the multimedia services it provides, anytime, anywhere. By incorporating a powerful, dual-mode UMTS/EDGE multimedia platform, the Nexperia cellular system solution 7210 gives advanced voice and data coverage across both 2G and 3G networks by integrating support for UMTS, EDGE and Dual Transfer Mode (DTM).
The integration of native 3G voice and data services into the 2.5G coverage area requires the handset to support DTM on top of the support of UMTS/EDGE (also referred to as W-EDGE) technology. The Nexperia cellular system solution 7210 is one of the leading platforms to fulfill this requirement. The low-power, highly integrated dual-mode UMTS/EDGE multimedia platform for the Value Added Services (VAS) mobile phone market, supports "true UMTS" performance, delivering seamless service coverage in 2.5G and 3G networks and offering high bit-rate availability in 2.5G (E-GPRS multislot Class 12) and UMTS.
Samples of the Nexperia cellular system solution 7210 are available now. Philips' DTM and DVB-H capabilities running on the Nexperia cellular system solution 7210 will be demonstrated at the 3GSM congress in Barcelona, Spain, from 13th to 16th February 2006 at the Philips stand.
Based on a powerful UMTS and quad band class 12-capable EDGE chipset, the Nexperia cellular system solution 7210 offers completely tailored performance enabling enhanced video, still imaging, audio, voice, a self-tuning FM/RDS stereo radio and security functions. The platform also supports Java J2ME, WAP2.0, LifeVibes algorithms for audio or video enhancements and conforms to MMS OMA 2.0. While minimizing power consumption to deliver industry-leading standby and talk times, this platform includes hardware extensions for broadcast such as DVB-H but also connectivity with Bluetooth and WLAN as well as Near Field communication.
