[Bluetooth shipments experience a record quarter reports IMS Researach averaging 10MU per week in the second half of 2005.]

Wellingborough, UK -- Bluetooth radio shipments have experienced yet another record quarter resulting in growth of 244% between 2004 and 2005. In the second half of the year, radio shipments averaged close to 10MU per week and further impressive growth is forecast for 2006. Cellular terminals and headsets continue to be major volume applications for Bluetooth and both showed impressive growth during 2005.

Most of the Bluetooth headsets shipped to date have been mono versions, but a major increase is forecast in stereo headset shipments over the next few years. The potential for this market was highlighted again last week with the announcement of an agreement between CSR and iPOD chipmaker, PortalPlayer. This will deliver Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity to PortalPlayer's next generation system-on-chip product, enabling the potential for large volumes of wireless stereo headsets to be sold.

As well as increasing penetration into the cellular market, Bluetooth continues to make significant headway in several other key areas, signifying the transition of Bluetooth from a niche market to a mainstream technology. These areas include notebooks, PDAs and automotive, where design-in activity is now translating into real volume growth.
