[UK's 3 launches "3G Quad" datacard bundled with Skype software, headset and starter voucher. 3 also announced a successful HSDPA trial today as it prepares for commercial network launch in the second half of 2006.]

3, the mobile media company, announced the launch of a datacard with the best 3G coverage in the UK. The 3 datacard is on sale rom 39.99 euro. 3 also announced a co-marketing agreement with Skype today, which will see 3 customers able to access Skype internet services through 3's datacard.

The datacard

With over 88% population coverage for 3G services, the datacard offers 3 customers faster wireless connectivity via a laptop in more places in the UK than any other network. The 3 datacard enables access to a range of internet services on the move from internet browsing, online purchasing, secure access to banking and email, access to client-based email, chat, instant messaging, VoiP services and corporate VPN connectivity.

Skype agreement

3 has bundled a special starter pack provided by Skype with the "3G Quad" brand of datacard supplied by Option. The starter pack includes the Skype software, a Skype headset and a Skype starter voucher.

3, the mobile media company, today announced a successful trial of High Speed Downlink Packet Access ("HSDPA") on its 3G network in the UK.

The trial, which has been running for the last four months, has already delivered speeds of up to 1.4 million bits per second, over three times faster than current 3G speeds and more than forty times faster than GPRS.

The first voice and data downloads on HSDPA were performed over 3's network in Maidenhead. The trial, conducted on Nokia and NEC infrastructure, will be extended to selected urban areas in May and 3 will implement HSDPA in its commercial network in the second half of 2006.
