CEATEC JAPAN Management Office announced that it will deploy a trial version of a new visitor entry and management system using mobile phones at CEATEC JAPAN 2006, to be held from Tuesday, October 3, to Saturday, October 7, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
The system will start for users of NTT DoCoMo "Osaifu-Keitai" handsets incorporating contactless Felica IC chips. The organizers plan to extend coverage to other carriers' handsets employing such chips.
The system will employ business card information that CEATEC JAPAN visitors pre-register on the Web. Visitors will use the Mobile Business Card Application to easily encrypt and store data on their handsets.
At the CEATEC JAPAN site, a special reader will identify the data on the mobile phones and issue entry badges, thereby streamlining entrance to the show, as well as to forums, seminars, and other events.
At exhibition booths with special readers, visitors will also be able to automatically transfer their business card information, removing the need to provide paper cards and facilitating business communications.
Many trade shows issue entry badges with barcodes to manage visitor information. However, it takes time to collate this information and deliver it exhibitors. With the new Mobile Business Card System, exhibitors will be able to obtain contact information in real time.
The new system is also secure and convenient for visitors, as their business card information can be deleted from their handsets before leaving the show.
