DiBcom, develops new mobile TV hybrid solution
Posted: 12-Dec-2006 [Source: DiBcom]

[New STK-7078 MD mobile TV platform integrates a dual tuner supporting both DVB-H and DVB-T standards.]

Paris -- On the occasion of CES 2007, the largest international tradeshow for consumer electronics, DiBcom, the leading designer of high performance Mobile TV chipsets will showcase its new hybrid platform, the STK-7078 MD. Devised for the reception of mobile digital TV, the chipset is fully NorDig II compliant and more performant than the MBRAI specification. It integrates a dual tuner, supporting both the DVB-H and DVB-T standards.

Two standards and two tuners for the best of both worlds

With this unique hybrid platform, DiBcom provides a cutting edge solution for the reception of mobile digital television. It meets the requirements of rapidly evolving mobile TV technology and the growing consumer demand for small screen portable television on such devices as laptop computers, PDA's and other mobile multimedia handsets. By converging both DVB-H and DVB-T standards on the STK-7078 MD platform, DiBcom puts forth a significantly improved technology enabling high quality mobile digital reception.

The STK-7078 MD is compatible with both Windows XP and Vista and is available in the form of a USB-2.0 key. This technology is an advanced solution that includes software porting and enables the reception of digital TV by either single or dual antennas.

The STK-7078 MD material comprises the DIB7070-M and the DIB7078-M (an integrated tri-band tuner and a "2 in 1" demodulator) that is combined with a USB 2.0 DiBcom bridge. The Diversity mode will be available for both DVB-T and DVB-H standards for the first time ever. By the second half of 2007 DiBcom also intends to make available the PCI Express bridge using this same material. In addition, the Diversity DVB-T mode has low power consumption of less than 1000 mW.

The Diversity mode, with its dual antenna enables both standards to emit optimal quality reception inside the home or in a highly mobile environment such as in vehicles and at speeds of up to 130 km/hr. With this state-of-the-art technology it is also possible to simultaneously record a TV channel while watching another.

Cyberlink, a long-time partner providing DiBcom with software applications for both PC's and PDA's currently applies DiBcom's latest technological breakthrough to its signature solutions. This attests to the high performance of the hybrid platform and the perfect co-existence of both standards for the reception of digital TV on PC's.
