On Saturday, April 21, 2007, LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. (LG Mobile Phones) will debut Visual Urban Abstracts "Views from a Cell" created by emerging visual artist, Patrice Elmi. Using only pure, glowing color from either early morning or late afternoon sunlight and her 1.3 megapixel LG camera phone, Patrice creates images that marry art and photography into a unique and vibrant form on the mobile phone. Untouched by computer or digital enhancing, her mobile images are alive with color, flowing with shapes and stalked by shadows.
"Views from a Cell" is the first art exhibit of its kind focusing on a new form of artistic expression, the mobile medium. The 100 photographs on display are 6 inch square digital C-prints which are mounted on aluminum sheets and laminated. The metal, depictive of a mobile phone, on which these photographs are fused actually integrates and becomes part of the piece itself. The exhibit will run from April 21, 2007 to May 19, 2007 at the drkrm. Gallery in Los Angeles, California.
"We are thrilled Patrice decided to use her LG 1.3 megapixel camera phone as an instrument to create such innovative and expressive artwork," said Jon Maron, Senior Director, Marketing at LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. "We look forward to seeing her grow as a mobile artist with our new VX8700 device which features a 2.0 megapixel camera phone."
The exhibit coincides with the launch of LG's newest handset, the VX8700, which pushes the limit of design and function by featuring a slim clamshell form factor, a large mirror-like color screen, and a smooth brushed metal finish. The handset also offers a high powered 2.0 megapixel camera/camcorder with photo editing capability.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at LG Mobile Phones for their support in this endeavor," said Patrice Elmi, the creator of Visual Urban Abstracts "Views from a Cell." "I never visualized using a cell phone to create art in the past, however now that I've begun this artistic journey into the mobile medium, it has opened my eyes to a whole new view. This new mobile medium transcends the traditional stereotypes that define what an artist should be. I hope my artwork empowers people to release their inner artist using a device that they already own -- their mobile phone."
