San Jose, CA -- Nth Air, Inc. -- a provider of next-generation wireless communication services has launched the first WiMAX(TM) (802.16e) network trial in Silicon Valley. This newly available technology delivers unprecedented high speed broadband internet connectivity and communication services in terms of both throughput capacity and coverage area.

In contrast to WiFi distribution nodes, which provide short distance connectivity, WiMAX(TM) 802.16e delivers high capacity ubiquitous broadband coverage at cellular distances. WiMAX(TM) 802.16e also delivers non-line-of-sight, indoor and mobile capabilities. "Being first to deploy 802.16e WiMAX(TM) in any market is exciting, but doing it in Silicon Valley is particularly challenging and a major market opportunity," said Graham Barnes, former CEO of NextWeb (a fixed wireless broadband company acquired in 2005 by Covad) and current Nth Air advisory board member.

"We are excited that the promise of WiMAX(TM) technology has now reached the reality of the marketplace. The Nth Air vision to provide ubiquitous communications coverage is now being realized," said Craig Niemeyer Nth Air's President and CEO. "We at Nth Air chose to start our service and build our network in Silicon Valley by design. It is a well known irony that here in Silicon Valley, the nexus for technology and innovation, businesses are often under served with respect to their options for broadband connectivity. Nth Air is changing this by providing cost effective, high bandwidth connections for our customers."

Nth Air has partnered with PureWave, a WiMAX(TM) equipment manufacturer, to provide a wireless network to address the so-called "last mile" challenge, bypassing the limitations of the copper infrastructure of the incumbent carriers. Utilizing PureWave's unique PureMax(TM) multi-beam forming technology Nth Air is delivering significantly higher capacity and coverage than our competition.

"We are thrilled to have been selected by Nth Air for this major new initiative across Silicon Valley and look forward to working closely with them as they build out their broadband network," said Gideon Ben-Efraim, PureWave Networks' President and Chief Executive Officer. "This substantial lead order for PureMax is a strong validation point that our WiMAX E product is delivering the right balance of advanced performance and cost for our customers."
