Santa Clara, CA -- MontaVista® Software, Inc., the leader in embedded Linux® commercialization, today launched a professional services offering for design engineers developing commercial products with Google Android™. MontaVista’s Android Commercialization Services offering is designed to help Android developers deliver innovative commercial products to market quickly and efficiently. This new global services offering is being launched this week with a series of seminars in Tokyo, Taipei, and Seoul.

MontaVista’s Android Commercialization Services is designed to help designers realize the full potential of the Android framework while reducing the time and effort required to deliver an Android-based product. Having delivered integrated solutions stacks like Montabello for other customers, with over 60 million devices powered by MontaVista Linux, and over 10 years of experience in providing developers with a high-quality commercial Linux that gives developers control over their designs, MontaVista is uniquely positioned to provide the expertise required to deliver high-quality professional services for Android.

Android was built to enable developers to design feature-rich, state-of-the-art mobile products such as mobile phones, smartphones, Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), and Netbooks, with a built-in time-to-market advantage. Data has shown product development life cycles can be reduced significantly with Android compared to traditional development approaches. But successfully delivering a commercial product using the Android framework is a challenge since no formal support is available and Android is a complex software framework requiring a strong knowledge of the Linux kernel and firmware.

“Although Android offers a well-integrated framework that offers the advanced functionality required for mobile products, like most open source projects it’s not the commercial quality our customers are used to working with,” said Art Landro, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Field Operations for MontaVista Software. “So even though the Android framework significantly reduces the time to develop a product, the commercialization effort can still take many man months and requires a high level of expertise with Linux. As the leader in embedded Linux commercialization, this is where MontaVista can help.”

MontaVista Android Commercialization Services include:

* Porting Android to custom platforms

* Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) porting

* Adding advance features to the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL)

* Adding advanced features to the Android libraries, Java layers, and applications

* 3rd party application integration

* Quality Assurance and Testing
