Verizon Developer Community Welcomes More Than 1,000 Mobile Application Developers In First 30 Days
Posted: 04-Sep-2009 [Source: Verizon Wireless]

[Verizon Wireless reports over one thousand developers have registered to become part of its developer community. The Verizon's Apply Your Ideas contest submission deadline is September 20.]

Basking Ridge, NJ -- One month after mobile applications developers gathered at the first-ever Verizon Developer Community (VDC) Conference, Verizon Wireless said today that more than 1,000 developers have registered to become part of the VDC. Registration is ongoing at http://developer.verizon.com, and hundreds of developers continue to sign up each week.

Verizon created the community to help developers bring mobile applications to market and address developer demands for speed and transparency. Verizon recently added the simple, click-through agreement to its developer portal so developers can begin to quickly and easily submit application concepts and start the path to market for their applications.

Submit Apps to Apply Your Ideas Contest by Sept. 20

Verizon's Apply Your Ideas contest -- designed to spur development of the freshest and most appealing applications for smartphone customers -- continues through Sept. 20. Developers can submit applications in one or more of five categories -- Connect, Entertain, Guide, Save Time, and Enhance Living -- each of which highlights the wide range of activities, information, entertainment and other cool things developers can bring to mobile phones. Verizon encourages developers who have been creating apps for other platforms such as Java, BREW, Android, Windows Mobile and others to enter the Apply Your Ideas contest. Applications must be new to the BlackBerry® wireless platform and work on BlackBerry® Storm(TM) smartphones to be eligible to win.

The Grand Prize winner, chosen from among the five category winners by a panel of judges, will take home $50,000; 200 percent of the application's revenue for a year (to a maximum of actual revenue plus $100,000) and a featured spot at the launch of the V CAST Apps storefront, among other prizes.

The latest information on the Apply Your Ideas contest is available at www.applyyourideas.com, including the rules, which can be found at www.applyyourideas.com/official_rules.aspx.
