Chicago, IL -- Open Kernel Labs (OK Labs), the leading provider of embedded virtualization software for mobile phones and broadband Internet devices, today announced that its market-leading software is now deployed in more than one billion mobile devices. With growth in its installed base of 57 percent (see graphic below), OK Labs also leads in mobile virtualization, well ahead of VMware and recent entrant Red Bend.

In recognition of the large market penetration of OKL4, the company has been included in the prestigious Vision Mobile 100 Million Club for the third year in a row. The 100 Million Club list is published semi-annually by VisionMobile, a market analysis and strategy firm in mobile software. The VisionMobile club celebrates software suppliers that establish significant share in the mobile handset market through deployment in 100 million or more handsets.

OK Labs is one of only 29 companies recognized for deploying products in 100 million or more handsets in the sixth semi-annual VisionMobile list, current as of the end of June 2010. According to VisionMobile research, just twelve products from ten companies had managed to reach more than 700 million deployments as of that date.

"The growth in shipments of Open Kernel Labs OKL4 parallels the dramatic growth of mobile devices over the past few years," said VisionMobile Research Director, Andreas Constantinou.

"As OK Labs deployments surpass the one billion mark, we continue to invest in new technology and to launch new products," said Steve Subar, Founder and CEO, OK Labs. "In 2010 alone, we released the OK Labs Mass-Market Smartphone Solution, the Nirvana Phone concept (together with Citrix) and, most recently, OK Labs SecureIT Mobile, a solution for secure and certified mobile devices."

SecureIT Mobile

SecureIT Mobile is a software and services solution based on the company's OKL4 Microvisor. The OK Labs solution enables mobile OEMs, mobile network operators (MNOs), integrators, and government contractors to build secure wireless communications devices from commercial off-the-shelf hardware and software. OK Labs SecureIT Mobile is available today to help agency IT, government contractors, third-party integrators, and OEMs collaborate to build secure mobile communications devices. OK Labs Mass-Market Smartphone Solution

Growth in the smartphone segment continues to exceed industry expectations and the next opportunity for growth will be influenced by sales of cheaper mid-range devices based on Android and other open OSes. OK Labs is first to market with a Mass-Market Smartphone Solution proven to deliver a rich user experience at a reduced cost. Download the white paper to learn more.
