[Strategy Analytics predicts global sales fof smartphones with a full touchscreen will reach 355 million units by 2015 up from 46 million in 2009.]

Boston -- According to “Global Smartphone Sales Forecast by Form Factor: 2004 to 2015,” by the Strategy Analytics Wireless Smartphone Strategies (WSS) service, global smartphone sales with a full touchscreen will reach 355 million units by 2015, up from 46 million in 2009. The rapid growth in smartphones with a full touchscreen will ultimately benefit media companies that want to deliver richer user-experiences for mobile consumers, such as Facebook, Netflix and Disney.

Tom Kang, Director at Strategy Analytics, said, “We forecast global smartphone sales with a full touchscreen to rise from 46 million units in 2009 to 355 million by 2015. Smartphone form factors have undergone a rapid period of transition in the past three years, switching from keypad-centric designs to slate designs with full touchscreens due to the success of the Apple iPhone. We expect that trend to continue for the foreseeable future.”

Martin Bradley, Associate Director at Strategy Analytics, added, “The surging growth in smartphones with full touchscreens will ultimately benefit all kinds of media companies, from content presenters like Disney, Electronic Arts and Netflix to Facebook and other social media sites. Larger, brighter touchscreens deliver richer user-experience for media consumers and enable them to extract greater value in accessing Internet browsing, social networking and mobile video.”

In this report, Strategy Analytics defines the four primary form factors in the smartphone industry as Bar, Slate, Clamshell and Slider, which are further categorized by the input method of 12 key, QWERTY and touchscreen.
