[Bloomberg reports Microsoft's Windows Mobile software to include support for NFC technology.]

By Jean Whitinger -- Reporters from Bloomberg have learned from two people "familiar with the plans" that Microsoft is working on incorporating NFC technology into the next version of its Windows mobile operating system. The first smartphones expected to include this technology may be released as early as this year.

Microsoft is also developing a relationship with Nokia to use its Windows software on next-generation devices. Nokia has committed to making all its Symbian smartphones NFC capable beginning this year.

Bloomberg also notes that Microsoft has been awarded 14 patents referencing NFC. The most recent was awarded March 22.
