PCWorld Names AT&T 4G LTE Network Tops in Latest Speed Tests

Dallas -- AT&T* 4G LTE speeds outpaced the competition, according to recent third-party speed tests by PCWorld. Testing in 13 cities showed that AT&T's 4G network delivered faster download speeds than any other carrier tested.

"In our tests, AT&T's new LTE network pumped out the fastest speeds of any 4G provider, while its HSPA+ service performed very well against comparable services," said Mark Sullivan, senior editor, PCWorld. "The two services combined in one of AT&T's new 4G phones — which use LTE service backed up by HSPA+ — make a pretty compelling package when it comes to overall speed."

AT&T customers have access to the nation's largest 4G network, covering nearly 250 million people. AT&T customers are able to enjoy widespread, ultra-fast and consistent 4G speeds on their compatible device as they move in and out of LTE areas because AT&T has two 4G networks that work together for customers, LTE and HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul.

"We made a decision to roll out ongoing upgrades and invest in our mobile network, on our way to more broadly deployed 4G LTE, so our customers could enjoy fast speeds and the best possible experience," said John Donovan, senior executive vice president of technology and network operations, AT&T. "It's great to see the results of our 4G network strategy in PCWorld's tests and in the feedback we're getting from our customers."

AT&T's 4G network strategy has also been recognized by Frost and Sullivan, a leading telecommunications analyst firm. Frost and Sullivan awarded AT&T with a 2011 North American Product Line Strategy Award in the Mobile Network Market for its plans to deploy fast 4G HSPA+ technology in addition to 4G LTE technology.
