[NTT DoCoMo releases a series of announcements to include new handsets, a new voice interface for Android, MasterCard PayPass NFC payment service, and a discount campaign for DOCOMO Xi smartphones.]
Tokyo, Japan -- NTT DOCOMO, INC., announced today its 2012 winter lineup of 16 models for launch in or after November, including nine smartphones, one tablet, four feature phones, one photo panel and one mobile Wi-Fi® router. DOCOMO’s newest collection of high-quality smartphones satisfies a wide range of user needs by offering high-end CPUs, large-capacity batteries, high-resolution displays and distinctive designs suited to specific customer segments.
NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced today that it will enhance its docomo cloud™ services for Android™ smartphones and tablets from November by upgrading its popular voice-command personal agent service, Shabette-Concier™, and introducing cloud-compatible versions of the phonebook and email services for DOCOMO Android devices.
Shabette-Concier is an advanced voice interface that allows users to acquire information and operate handset functions by speaking naturally into a smartphone. The upgrade will enable the service to respond more accurately by taking into account user attributes such as age and gender, and by nearly doubling the searchable information categories to over 30. Categories for maps, train timetables, driving directions, horoscopes and many others will make DOCOMO’s agent service more personal and practical than ever.
DOCOMO also will expand the number of apps and voice-operable phone functions to over 100, a more than tenfold increase. Apps for Map, Disaster Kit (disaster-related messaging services) and many others, plus a wide range of newly added handset functions, will make the voice interface especially useful and handy. Over 30 popular characters will be added as avatars that users can have fun interacting with. Each avatar speaks and responds in its own distinctive voice thanks to the same cloud technology that processes all voice synthesis over the DOCOMO network.
MasterCard’s innovative payment system, MasterCard PayPass, will be available to DOCOMO customers using smartphones equipped with a contactless chip for Osaifu Keitai™ (mobile phones with wallet functions) services via near field communication (NFC). Through joint collaboration between DOCOMO and MasterCard, DOCOMO customers will be able to make iD-brand payments at nearly 500,000 MasterCard PayPass merchant locations in 41 countries (as of June 2012), in addition to over 560,000 iD terminals in Japan (as of August 2012).
NTT DOCOMO, INC. also announced today that customers purchasing smartphones compatible with the company’s extra-high-speed LTE service Xi™ (read “crossy”), which surpassed six million subscribers in September, will be able to cut their basic monthly charge to zero during a discount campaign for DOCOMO Xi smartphones starting on October 18.
Customers will enjoy monthly discounts of up to 780 yen, equivalent to the monthly basic charge, for up to 13 months if they purchase a Xi-compatible smartphone and sign up for the Type Xi Plan Ninen two-year billing plan, or the Type Xi billing plan combined with a Hearty Discount for disabled users, between October 18 and December 31.
Subscribers who have been with the company for at least 10 consecutive years and purchase a Xi-compatible smartphone by December 31 will receive an additional 12 months of discounts, meaning they will be able to reduce their monthly bills by up to 780 yen for a maximum of 25 months.
