Korea -- "Dacom is joining forces with Internet and multimedia companies to boost its technology in the sector as part of its IMT-2000 business strategy.

"The company announced yesterday it has signed memoranda of understanding with 10 companies, including Yahoo!Korea, Sony Music Korea and Interpark, for contents and applications for the third generation mobile service.

"Unlike its competitors for the IMT-2000 business license that are scrambling to form consortiums, Dacom will concentrate on developing actual products for commercial service of the next generation mobile communication service, according to the company.

"An international IMT-2000 trial service has been slated for June next year, the company said. Dacom has signed on with several overseas operators, including Japan Telecom and China's Fourth Institute of Ministry of Information and Industry, to develop IMT-2000 technology, a Dacom official said.

"A personal digital assistant (PDA) type wireless handset is also being developed to facilitate IMT-2000 service, he added. (KHR)
