Go2 Systems Offers 300 Web Sites To Web-Enabled Mobile Users
Posted: 03-Jan-2000 [Source: Newsbytes]

[Go2 Systems enables WAP access to its location based directory services.]

By Sylvia Dennis, Irvine, Calif. -- "Go2 Systems has announced it has made more than 300 Web sites available to Internet-enabled cellular phones. In addition, the firm is also offering location-dependent access to the selected Web sites using Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) standards.

"As reported previously, WAP is an Internet Protocol (IP) data communications standard that allows limited graphic versions of Web pages to be displayed on a mobile phone screen.

"Central to Go2's service is the world geographic communications system (WGCS) technology, which the firm says allows mobile phone users to access the company's Go2 NetGates Web portal for onward WAP access to other Web sites.

The idea behind the Go2 NetGates service is that the Web portal can offer local and relevant Web pages to users of Internet-enabled mobile phones.

Facilities available via the service include turn-by-turn directions, store hours, specials and details on where to park - all of which the firm says are available from a user's Internet-enabled mobile phone.
