Hitachi Unveils Color Handset
Posted: 23-Aug-2000 [Source: pcworld.com]

[Get ready for the color animation handsets. Here is a report on the new Hitachi C309H model with 256 colors and 120 by 143 pixels.]

Tokyo -- "If you thought your cool new wireless access protocol handset was the latest and greatest in cellular technology, here's some bad news. Hitachi has just unveiled in Japan a cellular handset with a color screen.

"Hitachi's C309H features a 256-color super-twisted nematic (STN) LCD with resolution of 120 by 143 pixels. That's good enough to show animations and some very basic images. Pricing is not available; typically, service providers bundle mobile phones with subscriptions.

"The launch comes amid an explosion of color onto the screens of Japanese cell phones. Color LCDs began appearing several months ago on conventional handsets that support voice only. NTT DoCoMo launched color versions of its handsets for the competing i-mode wireless Internet service recently.
